Empowering Deaf Children in San Miguel de Allende to
Learn, Thrive, and Lead

Our Mission

EEESMA School for the Deaf provides academic education to Deaf children from preschool through high school in a bilingual model of Mexican Sign Language (LSM) and written Spanish.

Our mission is to ensure that all San Miguel de Allende children who are Deaf become literate, independent, and productive citizens who set and achieve meaningful life goals.

What We Do

Early Education: Introducing language through sign at the youngest age possible.
Academic Programs: Bilingual education from preschool to high school.
Vocational Training: Jewelry making, woodworking, computer skills training, art, and other life skills.
Family Language Classes: Helping parents learn to communicate in Mexican Sign Language.
Community Outreach: Promoting Deaf awareness and inclusion across the region.

Board Member Role
Board members are leaders, advocates, and ambassadors who help EEESMA grow and thrive.

Responsibilities

Attend quarterly board meetings (in-person or virtual)
Serve on at least one committee, offering your skill and expertise
Participate in fundraising and outreach
Support major events and school activities

Time Commitment
Approx. 4–6 hours per month, plus participation in key school events.
Term: 3 years (renewable) | Compensation: Volunteer/unpaid

Ideal candidates bring:

Professional skills in education, finance, law, business, fundraising, communications, or nonprofit leadership
A commitment to diversity, equity, and Deaf culture
Enthusiasm for hands-on engagement and community connection

EEESMA has also been fully vetted by both the Internal Revenue Servce in the United States
and by Amistad Canada, a Registered Canadian Charity.
Zeffy is a platform used to process donations to provide official tax receipts to American donors
and Amistad Canada does the same for Canadian donors.
